Ian Baker ha vivido en Kathmandu, Nepal, y ha practicado budismo tibetano durante más de veinte años. Estudió bellas artes, literatura y religiones comparadas en el Middlebury College, en la universidad de Oxford, y en la Universidad de Columbia. Ha escrito distintos libros sobre el Tíbet y Budismo tibetano, incluyendo The Tibetan Art of Healing, Celestial Gallery, y The Dalai Lama`s Secret Temple: Tantric Wall Paintings from Tibet. Es también coautor de Tibet: Reflections from the Wheel of Life y es colaborador del Explorers Journal y del National Geographic Magazine.
